The first instalment introduces ‘The Data Defenders,’ a creative concept unveiled at the 2024 FISD WFIC event in Austin, Texas. This initiative personifies CJC’s core services as superheroes, representing key areas such as market data, IT monitoring, engineering, observability, and professional services operations. The Data Defenders highlight CJC’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and its ongoing role in supporting the stability and success of global financial markets as the company enters its next 25 years.

CJC was officially incorporated on Christmas Eve 1999, beginning an incredible and entirely founder-funded growth journey. One of whom, Paul Gow, remains at CJC and serves as Chief Executive Officer. We will publish a series of articles over December reflecting on the past, celebrating the present, and looking toward the future to celebrate this momentous milestone.

Earlier this year at the FISD WFIC event in Austin, Texas, CJC kickstarted our 25th anniversary celebrations by seizing the opportunity to do something different, ambitious, and unconventional. Based on real CJC employees, we personified CJC’s renowned core services and expertise into superheroes – creating The Data Defenders! The approach proved hugely successful with attendees and far exceeded expectations, overshadowing conventional approaches.

Introducing The Data Defenders of Marketopolis…

Marketopolis

A metaphor for the capital markets, the city of Marketpolis is safeguarded and secured by the Data Defenders. Powered by data, technology, and innovation, the city is constantly under siege by the Market Marauders, a malicious and villainous group. Led by Outage Overlord and comprised of foes like Multicast Menace, Gap Ghoul, and Red Tape, the Marauders aim to disrupt Marketopolis’s technological and financial stability. Luckily, The Data Defenders are here to save the day! 

The Data Defenders

Celebrating 25 years of innovation and expertise, The Data Defenders symbolises the core value propositions that drive CJC forward. Looking ahead, through our everyday operations and services, CJC’s steadfast focus is delivering excellence, investing in the future, and ensuring Marketopolis (aka. the global capital markets) continues thriving.

The Monitor

	Hero: The Monitor’s suit grants him access to Marketopolis’s critical systems. When an issue arises, he detects and reacts with unmatched speed, escalating to the right team member to resolve the situation.
	Real World: Like The Monitor, CJC is deeply integrated into the capital markets. With expertise in IT monitoring platforms like ITRS Geneos, our global teams provide 24×7 event management, ensuring efficient end-to-end resolution for every issue.

Engineer Supreme

	Hero: The Monitor frequently turns to Engineer Supreme, whose encyclopaedic knowledge and instant problem-solving skills make her indispensable. She handles complex challenges while mentoring others to strengthen the team.
	Real World: With over 80 globally recognised market data experts in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and New York, CJC provides world-class engineering and consultancy services, delivering robust and resilient solutions for our clients.

The Observer

	Hero: The Observer’s mystical abilities allow him to foresee and avert potential failures. He uncovers hidden inefficiencies, ensuring Marketopolis runs at peak performance.
	Real World: mosaic, CJC’s award-winning observability platform has been predicting and reporting capacity issues since 2015. Storing monitoring data indefinitely, mosaic enhances uptime and enables operational stability.

Data Dynamo

	Hero: Under Data Dynamo’s watchful eye, Marketopolis’s resources are meticulously managed. She crafts foolproof strategies to minimise financial losses, ensuring efficiency and accountability.
	Real World: CJC’s Commercial Management team delivers best-in-class solutions, optimising entitlement and inventory systems. Producing cost savings for clients worldwide – and avoiding expensive fines.

Service Sentinel

	Hero: Service Sentinel holds the line during any chaos, coordinating responses and implementing preventive strategies. Through experience and a progressive mindset, she strengthens Marketopolis’s defences.
	Real World: CJC’s ITILv4-trained Service Operations team operates with world-class processes to ensure seamless service delivery. With ISO 27001 certified standards and DORA compliance, CJC is a reliable critical third-party dependency for financial firms.

The Boss

	Hero: Establishing the Data Defenders at the turn of the 21st century, The Boss set out to tackle the frequent outages and runaway budgets that had plagued Marketpolis. His vision and leadership brought together a world-class team to protect the city.
	Real World:  Paul Gow, CJC’s Founder and CEO, has guided the company for over 25 years. Under his leadership, CJC continues to expand globally while investing in new generations of talent through the CJC Academy.
