AT THE EVENT

Opening the event, Ince Saleem, Commercial Director at WatersTechnology, welcomed guests at the Corinthia Hotel’s main hall. Guests were also invited to partake in a silent auction after lunch, supporting The Children’s Trust. Presenting the awards, Ritula Shah, former Chair and Presenter at BBC World Tonight, recognised award winners by inviting award recipients on-stage.

Receiving the ‘Unsung Heroine’ award on Sandra Villena’s behalf, Jeanette Allan, Service Delivery Manager at CJC, collected the award on-stage. The ‘Unsung Heroine’ award was a new category created “in memory of an extraordinary woman who touched the lives around her with her enthusiasm and professionalism”, said Ritula. "The award will be known as the ‘Sandra Villena Unsung Heroine Award’ from next year and awarded to an individual who exhibits the qualities in which Sandra will be remembered.”

The evening was rounded off with a drinks and networking reception. A memorable and inspiring day that celebrated and recognised Sandra’s contribution amongst other women in the technology and data industry. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, women are often undervalued, an issue that Waters Technology wants to remedy by establishing a launch pad for capital markets firms to recognise and foster their female talent through a focused technology and data awards programme.
