What Did You Enjoy Most? |
"I enjoyed the viewing of the Metal Exchange. It really opened my eyes to the reality of trading, the stakes of trading, the emotion and feelings felt while working and working with clients. It all felt like a privilege and priceless, it was like I was live during the Wall Street Crash and that fascinated me." |
"The most enjoyable part was listening to the what is Market Data slides and learning more about what is involved. I enjoyed the interactive and creative analogies and explanations for what market data is, including the coin and football information. I also appreciated how they answered our questions." |
"Visiting the LME and seeing how the world of trading works, and also the group sessions listening to other people’s experiences and their journeys into the world of market data." |
What Have You Learned? |
"University is one of the many pathways to security and financial freedom. Many industries need to work towards targeting a more diverse community, eg target state schools, BIPOC and those without a degree." |
"You don’t need a degree related to market data/finance to get into the sector. The most important thing is having the transferable skills and passion to do the job." |
"I learned about the requirements to work in market data. I learned a lot more about the LME. I learnt more about the pros and cons of a university degree." |
Why Would You Recommend This Event? |
"It was rich in information and felt very welcoming and insightful. It was also a great opportunity to network and meet many people of colour in industries that I wasn’t sure if they could be in." |
"It really opens the door into the market data sector." |
"It is very useful for learning more about the job market as a whole and it alleviated my worries about future degrees and not knowing exactly what job I want to do." |
Chloe Lewis, Programme Director at The Catalyst Collective said, "We were delighted to partner with CJC and LME for a Market Data Insight Day. Steve, Sara and their team took a relatively unknown field and industry and opened it up to our young people, helping them to understand it and connect their current interests and future aspirations to a potential career in Market Data. The girls came away with further expanded horizons and feeling excited by the future possibilities for their careers!" |
Steve Moreton, Global Head of Product Management at CJC, said, "The first CJC Academy Open Day was a tremendous success. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of the participants as they delved into the world of market data. Our partnership with The Catalyst Collective and the generous support from the London Metal Exchange provided a unique and invaluable experience for these young women. Witnessing their interest and excitement in the subject matter, observing the LME trading ring, and interacting with industry professionals reaffirmed the importance of these initiatives. This was one of the best days of my career, and we are committed to continuing this in the future while fostering diversity and providing opportunities for the next generation of market data professionals."
Bhavika Patel, Market Data Reporting & Compliance Manager at LME said, "We were pleased to partner with CJC and The Catalyst Collective to deliver a Market Data Insight Day to inspire young women to pursue a career in Market Data. Our guests demonstrated great interest whilst witnessing the LME Ring trading session and hearing about LME staff experiences. We are hopeful the event provided a great opportunity for them to understand the endless career opportunities upon leaving school." |
Tracey Everiste, Senior QA Analyst at LME said, “I thought it was a good idea to host a day of events for this group of young women. I liked the approach of focusing on a particular field (data science) but allowing our guests to meet with LME staff who work in other fields (legal, IT, Operations). When I was at school, my knowledge of employment options was very limited (doctor, nurse, lawyer, policeman, secretary, shop worker, getting a job in a high-street bank, working in a factory). As a black woman, I was honoured to be involved in this initiative which gave younger black women the option to broaden their horizons.”
